Salcombe Beaches
A network
of ferries operate from Whitestrand or the Ferry Steps at Low Tide, both
of which are in the centre of town. These give an easy and rather special
access to the beaches around the town of Salcombe, namely North and South
sands at the harbour mouth and the beaches of East Portlemouth on the
opposite bank of the estuary from the town.
North
and South Sands
Lying on
the Western side of the Salcombe Estuary Mouth, North and South Sands
are two sheltered, fine sandy beaches with excellent views across the
estuary. The have good facilities and are within a short walk or ferry
ride of Salcombe town centre.
Access:
Good road access though busy. Good access to beach. Or Ferry from Salcombe.
Car Parking: Approx 100 spaces total - £5 per
day
Facilities: Both beaches have cafe and toilets nearby.
North Sands also has a beach shop, whilst South Sands has watersports
hire in summer and ferry link to Salcombe.
(Many facilities are seasonal).
Swimming: Safe bathing.
Dogs: No dogs on South Sands

East
Portlemouth Beaches
The East
Portlemouth side of the Salcome Estuary is lined by many beaches, and
at low tide one can walk the entire fore-shore. The beaches include Fishermans
Cove, Smalls Cove and the main beach Mill Bay. The sand is fine with sheltered
water and fine views.
Access:
Narrow, often busy lanes. Good access to beach. OR Ferry from
Salcombe
Car Parking: Approx 80 spaces total - £4 per
day
Facilities: There are toilet facilities at the Mill
Bay and Fishermans Cove ends, as well as Cafe, beach shop and ferry
to Salcombe from the Fishermans Cove steps.
(Many facilities are seasonal).
Swimming: Safe bathing.
Dogs: Dogs are allowed on this beach
